Evolution: In Favor of Humanity

Evolution: In Favor of Humanity

Captain Thomas Jackson is eager to return to Earth after a beleaguered year in space, but Admiral Wallace has other plans.
Jackson is ceded an android to replace his ship’s astronomer, and ordered to leave his time-traveler mummy behind on the space station. Several tons of supplies are needed at a human colony on Tau Ceti D where the population, and alien communities, are suffering from the growing pains of modernization.

Frankly, Jackson doesn’t want an android aboard, even a highly sophisticated A I. He doesn’t even like the robot vacuum shilly-shallying around his quarters. Ideally, the unit would be fostered by an astronomer, but the onus falls to Jackson. Cerebrus Astronomite imprints on the captain, using him as a mirror blueprint for developing its personality.

Jackson tries to juggle his mounting responsibilities, including an orphaned child on his ship, an admiral on his case, and his pregnant wife, Rianya, from Beta Hydri IV.

But just when he’s curbed his liabilities into a nifty little chest, his Astronomite picks the lock with a decision that resonates throughout the cosmos. How does one fight his own mirror?

Book Four in the Rising Destiny series is a cornerstone that amps the action and challenges Captain Jackson to perhaps the most frightening experience of his life, a moral challenge, followed by an unbearable loss. The story dips a toe into the world of artificial intelligence, the definition of life and death, and how new technology is not always the better choice.
